History, present and future of the Department of Road Engineering
Road infrastructure plays an important role in the economic growth and social development of any country. Therefore, the issue of training road engineers has always been relevant. The Department of "Road Engineering" is one of the leading educational and scientific centers in the training of such specialists, and has been training qualified personnel in the field of road construction, repair and operation in our country, conducting scientific research and making a worthy contribution to the development of the industry. The history of the Department of "Road Engineering" was formed in 2010 on the basis of the Department of "Construction of Buildings and Structures" in connection with the admission of students to the specialty "Construction of Motorways and Airfields" at the institute since the 1995-1996 academic year. The scientific potential of the late Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Toyir Mukumov and Candidate of Technical Sciences, Professor Inomjon Ganiev in this specialty played an important role. Starting from the 2007/2028 academic year, the educational direction 5340600 - "Operation of Transport Facilities" was opened. Since September 2010, it began its activities as a separate department under the name "Highways and Traffic Safety". Starting from the 2012-2013 academic year, the name of the department was determined by the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan as "Highways". In different years, the department was headed for short periods by temporary associate professors O. Adilov, A. Berdikulov, R. Hamrokulov and Sh. Erboyev. In 2017-2018 and since August 10, 2020, the department was renamed "Road Engineering" in accordance with modern requirements, and In'omjon Ganiyev has been heading it as the head.
The Department of Road Engineering is engaged in activities aimed at solving the following scientific problems in the field of road engineering:
1. Increasing the strength of asphalt and cement-concrete pavements: - Development of new additives (modifiers); - Climate-adapted pavement materials; - Recycling technologies for old pavements. 2. Improving transport and operational performance: - Increasing load resistance; - Ensuring smoothness and ease of movement of the pavement; - Improving waterproofing properties.
