During the visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Jizzakh Region on 2 December 2025, important instructions were issued to establish an engineering school specializing in nuclear energy at Jizzakh Polytechnic Institute (JizPI) and to introduce joint educational programmes in this field in cooperation with the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI (Moscow Engineering Physics Institute).
To ensure the implementation of these instructions, on 13 October this year, Alisher Usmankulov, Rector of Jizzakh Polytechnic Institute, visited the Tashkent Branch of the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI and held negotiations with Oleg Viktorovich Nagornov, First Vice-Rector of the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI.
The meeting was also attended by Viktor Yegorichev, Deputy Director of the Kurchatov Institute, and Shavkat Abdukamilov, Director of the Tashkent Branch of the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI.
During the visit, the JizPI delegation familiarized itself with the educational and research laboratories, as well as the material and technical facilities of the Tashkent Branch of the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI. The discussions focused on prospects for developing engineering education, scientific cooperation, and joint educational programmes.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties signed a cooperation agreement to launch a joint educational programme in Energy Engineering based on the “2+2” model.
This agreement will contribute to strengthening cooperation between the two higher education institutions, expanding international educational opportunities for students, and training highly qualified engineering professionals for the energy sector in accordance with international standards.
