Jizzakh Polytechnic Institute is a true child of independence. Jizzakh Polytechnic Institute was established in 1992 by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan of 28 February 1992 and Resolution No. 125 of the Cabinet of Ministers of 11 March 1992, on the basis of the Jizzakh branch of the Tashkent Institute of Architecture and Construction, the Jizzakh branch of the Tashkent Institute of Chemical Technology and the Jizzakh branches of the Tashkent Automobile and Road Institute, and is part of the organizational structure of the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan. In 1977 the Jizzakh "General Technical" faculty of Tashkent Polytechnic Institute was opened in the city of Jizzakh; a school building for 1,818 places, a student dormitory for 100 places, a 16-room house for teachers and 3 cottages were allocated for the faculty. Associate Professor N.Yu. Tashlanov was appointed dean of the faculty. The faculty began work on the basis of the departments of "General Education Subjects" and "General Technical Subjects" with 21 teachers, 4 of them candidates of sciences. The Jizzakh Construction Trust was designated by the regional leadership as patron of the newly established "General Technical" faculty. For the 1977-78 academic year 100 students were admitted to the full-time department, 75 to the evening department and 25 to the part-time department, and 100 trainees to the preparatory department. Over these years the institute supplied many leading sectors of our republic's economy — industry, transport, construction, agriculture, the economy, electric power and chemical technology — with qualified specialists with bachelor's and master's degrees. In the early years the faculty and branch were headed by Associate Professor N.Yu. Tashlanov (1977-1983), Professor F.H. Kurbanov (1983-1986), Candidate of Technical Sciences S.I. Ikromov (1986-1988), Associate Professor U.Yu. Yuldashev (1988-1990) and Associate Professor A.Yu. Salimov (1991). All conditions were created at the institute for teaching staff and students. In particular, lecture rooms and auditoriums were equipped with modern technical teaching aids (video projectors), which played an important role in the effective use by teachers of electronic educational-methodological complexes in subjects and in raising the quality of classes; 43 classrooms and laboratories were equipped with the latest laboratory equipment, including: the Department of "Electric Power Engineering" received modern laboratory equipment worth 50 million soums from the "O'zEnergo" state joint-stock company, the Department of "Operation of Vehicles" received new laboratory equipment worth 58 million soums from the "O'zavtosanoat" state joint-stock company, and a new laboratory was formed at the Department of "Metrology and Standardization" using 34 million soums allocated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan. At the Department of Electric Power Engineering, in cooperation with the "Uzbekenergo" state joint-stock company, an ASKUE (automated system of commercial electricity metering) installation worth 50 million soums and wind and solar power plants (18 million soums) were brought and installed. The laboratory was newly equipped with 9 computers and tables and chairs. The Department of "Electric Power Engineering" was provided with a 300 W solar photovoltaic station, a 2,500 W wind electric generator, 2 "Suv-10" solar water heaters, a 300 W micro hydropower plant, and hydraulic rams in two versions (lifting water to a height of 15-20 meters through its mechanical energy without consuming any energy). In addition, courses for retraining and professional development of engineering staff of the regional electricity-network enterprises of 4 regions (Jizzakh, Syrdarya, Samarkand, Bukhara) in ASKUE (automated system of commercial electricity metering) were organized in the laboratory. Laboratory room 107 of the Department of "Operation of Vehicles" of the Faculty of Motor Transport was equipped by the "O'zAvtosanoat" concern with spare parts and engine running gear of "Nexia", "Spark", "Matiz" and "Cobalt" cars produced at the Asaka automobile plant in Andijan region, worth 37 million soums. In this classroom, laboratory classes were held in the subjects of the programs "Ground transport systems and their use" and "Transport organization and transport logistics". To ensure the implementation of Resolution No. 187 of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan of 29 June 2012 "On improving Jizzakh Polytechnic Institute" and taking into account the needs of the economic sectors of Jizzakh region for specialists in this field, from 2013 the admission figures for the program "Metrology, standardization and product quality management" almost tripled. In 2013 a total of 60 students were admitted, including 20 on a grant basis and 40 on a contract basis. These admission figures were maintained in 2014 as well. To train qualified, competitive specialists in this program and to ensure the implementation of Resolution No. 157 of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan of 12 June 2014, the Department of "Metrology and Standardization" was established on 27 July 2014. For high-quality laboratory classes in specialty subjects for students of the program, modern equipment and installations worth 34 million soums were brought under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan. With the help of this equipment, 5 laboratory works in specialty subjects were organized, and the equipment brought is used in classes as visual aids.
