History, present and future of the Department of Road Engineering
Road infrastructure plays an important role in the economic growth and social development of any country. Therefore, the issue of training road engineers has always been relevant. The Department of "Road Engineering" is one of the leading educational and scientific centers in the training of such specialists, and has been making a worthy contribution to the training of qualified personnel in the field of road construction, repair and operation in our country, conducting scientific research and the development of the industry.
The history of the Department of "Road Engineering" was formed in 2010 on the basis of the Department of "Construction of Buildings and Structures" in connection with the admission of students to the specialty "Construction of Motorways and Airfields" at the institute from the 1995-1996 academic year. The scientific potential of the late Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Toyir Mukumov and Candidate of Technical Sciences, Professor Inomjon Ganiev in this specialty played an important role.
Since the 2007/2028 academic year, the educational direction 5340600 - "Operation of Transport Facilities" has been opened. Since September 2010, it has been operating as a separate department under the name "Roads and Traffic Safety". Since the 2012-2013 academic year, by the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the name of the department has been determined as "Roads".
In different years, the department was temporarily headed by associate professors O.Adilov, A.Berdikulov, R.Khamrokulov and Sh.Erboyev for short periods. In 2017-2018 and since August 10, 2020, the name of the department was determined as "Road Engineering" based on modern requirements, and In'omjon Ganiyev has been heading it as the head.
The Department of Road Engineering is conducting activities aimed at solving the following scientific problems in the field of road engineering:
1. Increasing the strength of asphalt and cement-concrete pavements:
- Development of new additives (modifiers);
- Climate-adapted pavement materials;
- Technologies for recycling old pavements.
2. Improving transport and operational performance:
- Increasing load resistance;
- Ensuring smoothness and easy walking of the pavement;
- Improving waterproofing properties.
